Frequently Asked Questions

How many different types of honey are there?

Since honey is produced from the nectar of flowers that honey bees pollinate, there’s truly no telling just how many varieties of raw honey there can be!

What is raw honey?

When honey is labeled as “raw”, this means that the honey inside that jar came directly from the honeycomb found in the beehive, without any processing such as fine filtering or heating.

What does the color of my honey mean?

The color of any raw honey is directly related to the time of year, as well as the plants that honey bees have pollinated. For example, Orange blossom honey has a light amber color, while black seed infused honey has a very dark color (and bold flavor).

How should I store my honey?

To maintain honey’s quality, keep it in a sealed container away from direct sunlight. It’s not necessary to refrigerate honey, as cooler temperatures can cause it to solidify. The ideal storage temperature is room temperature.

What’s the shelf life of honey?

Honey has an exceptionally long shelf life due to its low moisture content, which prevents spoilage. It essentially never goes bad.

Can anyone eat honey?

Since our honey is raw and unpasteurized, it's advised to wait until children are at least one year old before introducing honey into their diet.

Does honey help with allergies?

Honey may have anti-inflammatory effects and has been used as a cough suppressant. It can contain traces of flower pollen, which could be an allergen. Learn more about how raw honey helped with our son Zach’s allergies HERE.

What’s the difference between raw honey and filtered honey?

Raw honey is simply strained before being bottled, preserving most of its natural nutrients and antioxidants. In contrast, filtered honey often undergoes processing that can remove beneficial elements like pollen and reduce its antioxidant levels.

Why did the texture of my honey change?

Honey is a super-saturated solution of glucose and fructose. Over time, some sugars may crystallize, causing a change in texture. This is a natural process and indicates that the honey is pure. Factors like the honey’s glucose content, presence of pollen, and cooler temperatures can affect crystallization. While you can’t completely prevent it, you can slow it down. To return crystallized honey to its liquid state, simply place the jar in hot water.
